Following an impressive overnighter on the Waesmere syndicate (CLICK HERE to read Ignace's story), team member Ignace de Roeck returned and landed this lovely 36lb mirror using TunaMino boilies.
However, it wasn't quite what he was expecting...

Ignace explains: “Unfortunately after the great overnighter where I landed an upper twenty a mid thirty and a forty, I couldn’t get back to the lake for two weeks due to family and work commitments. Typically, the weather for these two weeks was perfect fishing weather too!

“ With a strong southwesterly wind some really good fish got caught, which is great, but always a little hard to hear when you can’t get to the lake.

“With the commitments sorted, together with my good friend Bart Machielsen, we planned a two-day session back at the Waesmere syndicate as soon as possible. By now, the weather had completely changed and the temperature was dropping fast. The prospects didn’t look good, but we had to take our chance and try our luck.

“When we arrived, to our surprise, the lake was empty, so I dropped into the same swim as before and Bart set up in the swim to the left of me. We were both staring at the lake watching for activity, but the water was dead quiet, as if all the fish were hibernating.

“After just a couple of hours though, out of the blue, I had a screamer on my left-hand rod. We were both astonished to tell the truth.

“Unfortunately, the fish found a severe snag and I lost it. I was gutted, to lose a good fish at this time a year when it’s difficult to get a take was a real blow.

“During the night and day we caught a dozen bream between us. It seemed like the fish weren’t as active as they were a couple of weeks previous. I keep on thinking that the fish I lost the other day could be the last and only one of the session. Yet, I felt that maybe with a different approach I could maybe tempt another bite.

“I took a bag of Chilli Club Up & Down Mix, mixed it with the supplied Chilli Club Big Shot liquid and put this out over the spot with a Spomb. It was a big risk because with a large head of bream in the lake, and having already landed 12 of them, the result could have been a ‘breamfest’.

“As the second night progressed the bream were still active and I think it was at around 4am that I had another typical bream bite. With great reluctance I got out of bed and put on my waders. I was just about to pick the rod up when the drag on my reel slowly started to tick and pay out line.

“Amazed I picked up my rod and made contact with the fish. It was defiantly a carp, and this one had to be landed for my sanity if nothing else.

“The whole fight my heart was thumping away, but finally I saw a nice mirror carp slip over the draw cord and into my net. It tipped the scales at 36lb and I was thrilled. The rest of the trip remained quiet, but that didn’t matter to me.

“As with most of my captures this year, it was a TunaMino hook bait fished over a bed of freebies, but I’m also convinced that the Up & Down Mix had a part to play too.”
